Six Ways to Make Your Apartment as Comfortable as a Luxury Hotel

Do you ever come back from a stay in a high-end hotel and wish your apartment resembled your experience there at least a little bit? Check out these six simple ideas to make your apartment comfortable in a five-star way — without paying luxury prices nightly!

Coordinate colors
Fancy hotel rooms are usually about feng shui, which begins by corralling colors in the space. Pick a limited spectrum – say, three colors — and coordinate wall color (if possible), furniture color, beddings, window treatments and floor color. By using shades that complement each other, you’ll cut down on sensory overload and create the tranquil, tasteful vibe of your favorite luxury hotel.

Luxury linens
What is it we’re likely to remember most vividly about a fine hotel room? It may be the extra elegant bedding. Start with luxury linens when you want to bring some fancy hotel ambience into your everyday life. A featherbed or feather top mattress, duvet, duvet cover and soft sheets in white or cream will create the foundation for your dream boudoir. Add monograms and accent pillows for a touch of customized elegance.

The right lighting
Any fancy hotel room worth its salt won’t be lit like a supermarket, right? You can give your apartment a lighting makeover with tasteful, simple lamps. Dark shades create a peaceful mood, while light shades brighten a space. Be sure not to clutter your bedroom, either. One lamp on each side of the bed, for instance, looks sophisticated and provides ample light for reading before sleep.

Keep it clean
A restful aspect of a fancy hotel room may be that it’s not overflowing with all your messy personal belongings. If you want to have a shot at locking in restful, yet fancy, digs, start by decluttering. Banish knick-knacks to storage or a donation box, and sort your mail daily. When your clothes are clean, fold them and put them away immediately.

Pretending that you’re just visiting might be the secret to keeping your apartment cleaner than you ever thought possible. So make your bed every day, clean the bathroom and empty those wastebaskets.

Send yourself flowers
Okay, you don’t actually have to have them delivered, but displaying fresh flowers in your apartment adds a taste of natural luxury to the atmosphere that would be at home in a fine hotel. If purchasing a new bouquet each week is too pricey, you could invest in a tasteful faux arrangement.

Ask yourself what other little niceties would make you feel pampered every day?

Cherish your space
How many five star hotels would stay that way if they weren’t maintained, cleaned and cared for incessantly? Let the answer be your guide.

Select each item that goes into your apartment with thought and care. Bring in the design amenities that make you feel tranquil and pampered, and get rid of the stuff that is mismatched, tacky or worn out. Before long, you won’t want to stay anywhere else!
